Harassment is when unwanted comments, contact, or behaviour is given towards a person.

Workplace Imbalance

Gender based violence

Workplace imbalance is the act of discrimination in the workplace, specifically surrounding promotion, and the stereotypes pushed onto women along with harassment(1 in 3 women report being harassed by a coworker).

Gender based violence (GBV) is one of the many forms of harassment affecting women today. Gender violence involves violence against a certain group of people in relation to their gender.

Human Trafficking

Human trafficking  involves the recruitment, coercion, or the use of force towards people to obtain profit from their exploitation.

Unrealistic Standards

There is a trend of the repeated sexual objectification of women and associating their worth to their appearance.

Affects on Adolescents

Social inequality is able to have affect girls at a young age and leave a huge impact to their mental and physical development.

What can be done?

Mental health groups

One method to assist women’s mental health is creating interventions in the form of girl-focused mental health groups/sessions. This can help them overall increase their well-being. To start, the groups would require a both physically and mentally safe environment to ensure that girls are comfortable in the space. Creating a safe and healthy environment will encourage girls to develop trust and understanding in their sessions. These groups can provide girls a safe space that encourages healthy personal growth.

Advocating

It is also essential to spread awareness of this issue, as well as advocating for improvement in our society. This issue is centred around social issues, caused by the unhealthy stereotypes pushed onto females which damages their mental health, along with these stereotypes shaping authorities’ mindset to brush off legitimate issues such as SA reports. By advocating and speaking out, not only can it inform others about this issue, it also allows for action to be taken. Let's work towards a world where gender inequality isn't stigmatized but recognized for its severe impacts.
